Hoyer Statement on President Trump's Fiscal Year 2018 Budget Proposal

March 16, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after President Donald Trump released his budget for fiscal year 2018:

"I am extremely concerned with the Trump Administration's budget proposal for fiscal year 2018, which not only shows a lack of detail, but an extreme disinvestment in our nation. President Trump's proposal slashes our federal workforce, severely cuts the Environmental Protection Agency's budget while eliminating funding to preserve the Chesapeake Bay, and allows for devastating cuts to the National Institutes of Health. The President's proposal also threatens the funding of the Purple Line light rail project, and eliminates key funding for NASA and the Goddard Space Flight Center. Simply put, the President's budget proposal is dangerous for Marylanders.

"I urge Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to reject the President's radical proposal, and work together on a budget that addresses the needs of our country in a responsible manner."
