Hoyer Statement on President Obama's FY 2016 Budget

February 3, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC –Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) issued the following statement today after President Barack Obama released his budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2016:

"The President's budget proposal released today makes important investments for the future of the Fifth District, Maryland and our country. The budget includes grants for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority to invest in its infrastructure and funding for the proposed Purple Line transit project – a 16-mile east-west transit line that will generate economic development, create job opportunities, and a more efficient transportation system for our region. The budget also includes funds for rebuilding our infrastructure, restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, and improving the lives of our children through expanded early childhood education.

"I'm pleased that the budget will replace the irrational sequester cuts which resulted in furloughs for many federal employees. I am proud of the work our federal workers do in providing essential services to Americans around the country and I am proud to represent more than 62,000 in Maryland's Fifth District. In addition, the budget lays out a plan for our veterans to receive the care, benefits, services, and opportunities they deserve. The men and women who served our nation honorably in uniform have earned the best care they can get and Congress has a duty to ensure that happens.

"I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House to enact the proposals in the President's budget to benefit Marylanders and all Americans by helping to expand the middle class, create decent-paying jobs and grow the economy."
