Hoyer Statement on President Biden's Announcement of Continued Support for Ukraine

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after President Biden delivered remarks reiterating the United States' continued commitment to Ukraine:

"For nearly a year, the Ukrainians have valiantly fended off Vladimir Putin's criminal and unprovoked invasion of their sovereign nation. They have demonstrated their courage and competency on the battlefield time and time again. Most importantly, they have proven that with the necessary tools and support, they can defeat their attackers. That's why I was pleased to see President Biden's announcement earlier today that the United States will send further military aid – including Abrams tanks and additional armored vehicles – to the people of Ukraine as they fight for their independence and democracy. I also commend his administration for continuing to lead an unprecedented international effort to support Ukraine. That cooperation includes the recent commitments by Germany, the United Kingdom, Poland, France, and many others to supply their own tanks, armored vehicles, air defense systems, and other weapons to Ukraine.

"As President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made clear when he spoke before Congress last month, his fellow Ukrainians are fighting for the future of the free world. They have made tremendous sacrifices in the defense of liberty, just as Americans have done throughout our history. We must continue to stand behind our Ukrainian friends. I will continue working with House Democrats and many of our colleagues across the aisle to ensure that our support for Ukraine remains steadfast and that our nation continues to fulfill its historic role as 'the great arsenal of democracy.'"
