Hoyer Statement on Premium Rate Increases in the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange

October 25, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after the Maryland Insurance Administration announced that it would approve additional premium rate increases for individuals enrolled in Silver plans through the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange:

"Today's announcement that the more than 96,000 Marylanders expected to enroll in Silver plans through the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange will see severe premium increases in 2018 is unacceptable. This action is further proof that the Trump Administration's efforts to sabotage the Affordable Care Act are hurting Maryland families and destabilizing the insurance markets. With just one week before the 2018 open enrollment period begins, I will continue to urge my colleagues to support the bipartisan Alexander-Murray bill, legislation to strengthen the Affordable Care Act and ensure access to quality, affordable health coverage for all Marylanders."
