Hoyer Statement Praising Governor O'Malley, Maryland General Assembly on Raising Maryland's Minimum Wage
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after Governor O'Malley signed into law legislation to increase Maryland's minimum wage to $10.10:
"Today's bill signing represents significant progress for Maryland's workers and their families. By raising the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, Governor O'Malley and the General Assembly made it clear that those who work full time in Maryland should not have to worry about living in poverty. Maryland has now joined with several other states in making it clear that the minimum wage needs to be raised so that the lowest-paid workers in our country can access the full range of opportunities that make the American Dream possible. I want to thank Governor O'Malley and Lt. Governor Brown, as well as Senate President Miller, House Speaker Busch, Chairman Middleton, and Chairman Davis, for leading the nation on this important issue. I will continue to push for Congress to follow Maryland's example and raise the federal minimum wage."
