Hoyer Statement on Pay Increase for Federal Employees

December 20, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC –Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) issued the following statement today on the executive order issued by President Obama yesterday that officially implements the 1 percent pay increase for civilian and military employees as proposed in the FY 2015 Budget and included in the President's alternative pay plan released on August 29, 2014:

"The President's decision to provide a 1 percent pay adjustment in 2015 to members of both the uniformed and civil services is a recognition of the principle of pay parity which I have long championed. The contributions of military personnel and federal civilian employees to the success and security our nation are enormous and indisputable.

"I look forward to working with the Administration and the new Congress to ensure the principle of pay parity for federal civilian employees and military personnel continues, and as the economy continues to perform, I will work to ensure pay for our civilian and military personnel improves and can compete with private sector compensation."
