Hoyer Statement on the Passing of Former Congresswoman Helen Delich Bentley
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement on the passing of former Congresswoman Helen Delich Bentley:
"I was saddened to learn of former Rep. Helen Delich Bentley's passing. I served with her for ten years in Maryland's Congressional delegation, and I saw firsthand her tenacity and her deep caring for the people of Baltimore and our state. During her tenure in Congress, as well as before being elected to the House of Representatives and after leaving it, she fought hard to ensure that the Port of Baltimore would remain a premier gateway for American goods to reach markets across the world. Throughout her trailblazing career in journalism, her service as Chair of the Federal Maritime Commission, and her tenure in Congress, Helen had a well-deserved reputation for developing close working relationships even with those who opposed her or stood across the aisle. She always put Baltimore and Maryland first, and she will surely be missed by those she represented and on whose behalf she advocated throughout her many years in public service."
