WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed the first package of appropriations bills, which includes Labor-HHS-Education, State and Foreign Operations, Defense, and Energy and Water Development appropriations bills:
"The legislation passed today makes significant investments that will benefit families in the Fifth District. The legislation will support efforts to restore oysters in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries; strengthen workforce development programs and education initiatives, such as full-service community schools and the Special Olympics; and ensure students can access mental health programs in school and have peace of mind that their schools are equipped to assist them if they have food allergies. The bill will also support research initiatives at the National Institutes of Health, including research for Alzheimer’s disease, HIV/AIDs, and the Cancer Moonshot. I’m proud that the House has passed a funding package to help more families in Maryland and across the country get ahead, and I urge the Senate to take it up without delay."
