Hoyer Statement on the Passage of a Fifth Continuing Resolution
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement tonight after the House of Representatives passed a fifth continuing resolution. The legislation funds the government through March 23:
"Republicans have now voted five times to kick the can down the road and force the federal government to operate on weeks-long funding agreements. Republicans in Congress are derelict in their duties, and every Marylander ought to be outraged.
"Short-term funding makes it nearly impossible for federal contractors to plan, hire workers, or do business with the federal government. And the constant threat of a government shutdown makes it extremely difficult for our hardworking federal employees to do their jobs.
"Republicans control the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the White House. I will continue to urge my Republican colleagues, as I have for the past six months, to work with Democrats to reach a budget agreement that adheres to parity for defense and non-defense spending increases. We also must take action to reauthorize expiring health programs, protect DREAMers, and provide relief to Americans living in areas impacted by natural disasters."
