Hoyer Statement on the Opening of the Maryland Health Connection

October 28, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement on the opening of the Maryland Health Connection this week:

"This week, enrollment in Maryland's online health Marketplace began, and Marylanders can now shop, compare, and enroll for affordable, quality coverage through the Maryland Health Connection. Already, more than 100,000 people have visited the Maryland Health Connection website and thousands of others have received assistance through the Customer Support Center or by visiting one of the six regional Connector Entities. Through the launch of the Connection and expansion of Medicaid, an estimated 280,000 Marylanders will gain access to health coverage in the next year. It's clear Marylanders are eager to hear about new options available to them as a result of health care reform, and given the strong demand from consumers, the State is working hard to increase the website's capacity. I thank the O'Malley-Brown administration for their efforts to ensure that all Marylanders looking for health insurance are able to access the Maryland Health Connection and enroll in a plan that best suits their needs. I will continue to monitor these efforts and work with all stakeholders as open enrollment continues over the next six months."
