Hoyer Statement on the Opening Day of the Maryland General Assembly

January 11, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement marking the beginning of the 445th Maryland General Assembly legislative session:

"Each and every year I am proud to welcome the start of the Maryland General Assembly legislative session as well as the hardworking representatives committed to getting work done on behalf of Maryland families. Last year, the work that Democrats produced made a positive impact across our state. Now, working alongside the Moore-Miller administration, I am confident that the General Assembly will continue their efforts to address the urgent priorities of those in Maryland's Fifth Congressional District and across Maryland.

"From enshrining women's rights and reproductive freedoms into our Constitution, to addressing the gun violence epidemic, to equitable cannabis regulation and so much more, I know that under the leadership of Speaker Adrienne Jones, Senate President Bill Ferguson, and other legislative leaders like House of Delegates Majority Whip Jazz Lewis, Maryland can continue to be a model for the rest of the country on how to produce positive legislative results. I look forward to continuing to be a resource and an advocate for my colleagues in the Assembly and wish them well in the next 90 days ahead."
