Hoyer Statement on the Opening Day of the Maryland General Assembly
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the first day of the 444th session of the Maryland General Assembly:
"I join in welcoming the Maryland General Assembly back to session today and look forward to the progress they will make in the next 90 days on behalf of Marylanders across the state.
"This year lawmakers will take critical action on behalf of Maryland families, continuing their productive work from last year's session. The resurgence of COVID-19 has made addressing our health care infrastructure a key priority, and voters are also looking to see progress made on Maryland's climate needs, advancing equity and racial justice for all, and responsibly managing Maryland's budget surplus following Congress' infusion of emergency pandemic funding.
"Under the leadership of my dear friends Speaker Adrienne Jones and Senate President Bill Ferguson, I have complete confidence that the assembly will have a productive session once again and be a model of what effective and transformative legislating looks like for other states to follow."
