Hoyer Statement on New Report Showing Millions of Marylanders at Risk of Losing Health Coverage

October 2, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement in response to a report released by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which shows that millions of Marylanders are at risk of losing their health insurance because of actions taken by the Trump Administration:

"Today's report ought to be a serious wakeup call. Actions taken by the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress to sabotage health care in our country have serious consequences for families in our state. By refusing to oppose a lawsuit seeking to take away protections in federal law against discrimination based on age, gender, or pre-existing health conditions, the Trump Administration is putting health coverage at risk for over three million Marylanders. In the Fifth District alone, 28,000 individuals are at risk of losing their coverage or seeing significant premium increases.

"Congress ought to be making it easier for families to gain access to quality, affordable health care. Instead, Republicans are taking steps that raise costs and undermine coverage. I will continue to work with my colleagues to stand up for Maryland families, oppose these sabotage efforts, and strengthen access to quality, affordable health coverage."
