Hoyer Statement on New Metro Chief Safety Officer

April 12, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after Metro's General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Paul Wiedefeld, announced that Patrick Lavin has been hired as Metro's new Chief Safety Officer:

"I join in welcoming today's news that Metro has hired Patrick Lavin as its new Chief Safety Officer to oversee the safety of the rail system. I hope that his more than 30 years of experience in rail operations and maintenance, including most recently as the second in command for the Office of System Safety at New York City Transit, will help to address Metro's safety issues. The General Manager, Paul Wiedefeld, and Metro need a strong team that can work effectively to restore the confidence of its riders and stakeholders. I look forward to continuing to work with Metro to address the system's challenges and to improve the safety and reliability for Fifth District commuters and visitors to our region."
