Hoyer Statement on New Data Showing Affordable Care Act Helped 46,000 Marylanders Save on Prescription Drugs Since January

November 26, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after new data was released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) showing that the Affordable Care Act helped 46,000 Maryland seniors save on their prescription drugs during the first ten months of 2013:

"Today's report from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services shows seniors in Maryland are benefiting from prescription drug savings as a result of the Affordable Care Act. Since the law's enactment, Medicare beneficiaries in Maryland have saved nearly $130 million on their prescription drugs, and in the first 10 months of 2013 alone, nearly 46,000 seniors and people with disabilities saved $42 million, with the average beneficiary saving $916. This news confirms that the Affordable Care Act is delivering positive results for seniors and others on Medicare in our state and throughout the nation. I'm pleased that Marylanders are already benefitting from these health care savings, and even more Marylanders will benefit from quality health coverage as the Affordable Care Act continues to be implemented."
