Hoyer Statement on National Recovery Month

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today in observance of National Recovery Month, which is observed throughout the month of September:

"As we mark the beginning of National Recovery Month, I join in recognizing the tremendous gains of Marylanders and Americans across the country who continue to make progress on their path toward recovery from addiction and substance abuse. For too many Marylanders, addiction continues to be a struggle, fraught with a harmful and incorrect stigma. But this year’s National Recovery Month theme, ‘Recovery is for Everyone’, reminds us all that addiction is a disease and recovery is possible for every person, every family, and every community – both in Maryland and across the country. Throughout September, we must redouble our efforts to support those still fighting for a healthier life. I will continue my work in Congress to ensure greater access to substance use services and stronger mental health resources for every Marylander in the Fifth District. This month, let us recognize the personal resilience of those who have struggled for too long, and stand with our friends and loved ones who continue on their journey toward full recovery.”
