Hoyer Statement on Mismanagement at the Washington, DC VA Medical Center

April 12, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General released an interim report detailing mismanagement of supplies and equipment at the Washington, DC VA Medical Center.

"I am deeply alarmed by a report released today by the Office of Inspector General detailing a number of systemic problems at the Washington, DC VA Medical Center. Our veterans deserve better. There is no excuse for this level of negligence, and I am concerned that the mismanagement of supplies and equipment may have impacted patient safety. I will continue to closely monitor the situation. While the VA has removed the Medical Center Director from his position, I call on the VA to immediately complete a thorough investigation into the matter and take action quickly to remedy the situation."
