Hoyer Statement on Metro's Proposed Safetrack Plan

May 10, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today in response to Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld's new proposed Safetrack Plan to address maintenance's efforts for the Metro system:

"Today's announcement by Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld is a step in the right direction toward improving the Metro system. While I am disappointed that there will be significant disruptions in service for Metro riders, I am hopeful that General Manager Wiedefeld's plan will ensure that Metro can make lasting changes that will increase the safety and reliability of the system and regain the trust of its riders. Yesterday's explosion and the closure of two stations during rush hour show us that Metro's current maintenance efforts are not effective.  I will continue to be in contact with General Manager Wiedefeld and will closely monitor developments as this proposed plan moves forward."
