Hoyer Statement on Maryland Surpassing 10,000 Coronavirus Deaths

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after Maryland surpassed 10,000 coronavirus deaths:

“Today is a devastating day for the state of Maryland as we mark over 10,000 lives lost to COVID-19. My heart is with all those who have suffered unimaginably during this pandemic, especially those who have lost loved ones, friends, and neighbors.

“Though Maryland is not where it once was at the height of this pandemic, it is clear that the Delta variant remains a grave threat to our unvaccinated communities and that positive COVID-19 cases due to this new strain are on the rise. We cannot falter in our efforts to get every Marylander vaccinated. That is why I continue to urge everyone in the Fifth District and the state to get their free COVID-19 vaccine today. Together, we can all do our part to end this pandemic and save lives.

“I join in mourning the thousands of Marylanders lost during this health emergency and feel deeply for the families that have faced hardship during this crisis. I also extend my gratitude to the health care professionals – our heroes – who have worked tirelessly since day one to care for patients and to help countless families during this difficult time. Today, as we reflect on this somber milestone, we must also continue to do everything possible to protect ourselves and our communities, including by wearing masks and getting vaccinated.”
