Hoyer Statement on Maryland Recouping $45 Million from Contractor for State Health Insurance Marketplace Website

July 21, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after it was announced that Noridian Healthcare Solutions, LLC., a contractor hired to build Maryland's health insurance marketplace website, will pay $45 million to the state for the failed launch of the website:

"Today's announcement that Noridian Healthcare Solutions LLC will have to repay Maryland $45 million for the role it played in the failed launch of Maryland's health insurance marketplace during the first enrollment period in 2013 is a first step in the right direction. The problems with the website that led to a slow rollout for the marketplace were unacceptable and I'm pleased that those responsible are being held accountable. After rebuilding the website, our state's health insurance marketplace—the Maryland Health Connection—enrolled more than 480,000 Marylanders during the 2015 open enrollment period. I will continue to monitor the investigations of other companies who may have also played a role in the launch of the website and to ensure that our state marketplace continues to be successful so more Maryland families can receive quality and affordable health coverage."
