Hoyer Statement on Maryland Manufacturing Month

October 28, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after Governor Martin O'Malley declared October "Maryland Manufacturing Month" and kicked off a year-long focus on the state's manufacturing industry:

"I'm pleased that the O'Malley-Brown Administration has declared October ‘Maryland Manufacturing Month' and will continue its focus on growing Maryland's manufacturing sector. From engaging with his Advisory Commission on Manufacturing Competitiveness to establishing the Employment Advancement Right Now job training initiative, Governor O'Malley has made it a priority to strengthen Maryland manufacturing and ensure our workers are trained for the jobs of tomorrow. Thanks to these efforts, our state is home to some of the country's most innovative, high-tech manufacturing businesses, but there is still much more we can do to build on that progress and create well-paying jobs for Marylanders.

"Congress has an important role to play in boosting the manufacturing industry here in Maryland and throughout the country. That's why I'm leading the Make It In America plan to expand domestic  manufacturing by focusing on four key priorities: adopting and pursuing a national manufacturing strategy, promoting the export of U.S. goods, encouraging businesses to bring jobs and innovation back to the U.S., and training and securing a twenty-first century workforce. In addition to ending the government shutdown as soon as possible by passing a responsible funding measure, I'm hopeful that Congress will take action on Make It In America legislation to help workers and businesses make it in America and right here in Maryland."
