Hoyer Statement on the House Striking Down Amendments Attacking Federal Employees of the CBO

July 26, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement tonight after the House of Representatives voted down both the Griffith/Meadows amendment to Republicans' "minibus" appropriations bill, which would have eliminated the Budget Analysis Division of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), and the Perry amendment, which sought to cut funding to the CBO by 52%:

"I'm pleased that Members from both sides of the aisle joined together to defeat these amendments that attacked our federal civilian workforce just for doing their jobs. The hardworking federal employees at the CBO work tirelessly to provide high quality, non-partisan analysis of the impact legislation will have on the American people, a critical task that should not be threatened by partisan politics. I will continue to stand with my Democratic and Republican colleagues in Congress to prevent attacks on the men and women who make up our civil service."
