Hoyer Statement on Governor Hogan's Transportation Funding Announcement
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today following Governor Larry Hogan's transportation funding announcement:
"While important funding for transportation projects in the Fifth District—including finishing the beltway interchange at the Greenbelt Metro Station—were included in the plan released today, I am deeply disappointed that the Governor chose to shift some of the cost of the Purple Line to Prince George's and Montgomery Counties. Shifting the funding to the counties is not an effective way to bring down costs.
"I was proud to play a key role in helping to secure the first installment of Federal funding for the Purple Line, connecting Bethesda to New Carrolton, in the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act of 2015. It is my hope that the Purple Line will come to fruition to connect Marylanders including those in the Fifth District with the jobs and economic benefits it will provide.
"I am also disappointed that the Governor chose not to fund the Baltimore Red Line which is a critical investment that would spur job creation and economic growth in the Baltimore area. I remain committed to working with the Maryland Congressional Delegation to fight for transportation infrastructure projects that will benefit our entire state and all Marylanders."
