Hoyer Statement Following the Second Annual Fallen Heroes Memorial Service
CHEVERLY, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after attending the second annual Fallen Heroes Memorial Service held by the Police Chiefs' Association of Prince George's County:
"It is with great sadness each year that we gather in May to remember our fallen heroes, but what we measure in grief is equaled by the pride we have in those who served and gave their lives. We are fortunate to have the most dedicated and talented law enforcement professionals in the Fifth District, and I am proud to be their voice in Congress. Last month, the House passed a bipartisan bill that I introduced to allow construction to proceed on the National Law Enforcement Museum, which will honor the approximately 20,000 men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty, including Officer Adrian Morris and Corporal Tom Jensen.
"However, we must do more than memorialize the fallen – we must do all we can to keep others from danger. That's why I have made it a priority to advocate for programs like COPS and the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program. I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that law enforcement officials in the Fifth District and around the country have the tools they need to do their jobs safely and provide their loved-ones with peace of mind. I thank law enforcement officials for all that they do to protect our communities and may God bless our fallen heroes."
