Hoyer Statement Following Meeting with OPM Director Katherine Archuleta

December 4, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after meeting with Katherine Archuleta, the Director of the Office of Personnel Management:

"I was pleased to meet with Katherine Archuleta today to discuss her priorities as the Director of the Office of Personnel Management, the federal agency responsible for managing our nation's federal workforce. At a time when federal employees have been repeatedly targeted, it's more important than ever that we stand up for these hardworking Americans and ensure they have the pay and benefits they deserve. Not only have they already contributed $114 billion to deficit reduction, but many were also furloughed as a result of the shutdown and sequestration. I continue to oppose efforts that solely target federal employees, as they substantially undermine our ability to recruit and retain the competitive workforce America needs and deserves. I look forward to working with Director Archuleta to fight for our federal workforce and continue to highlight the important work they do to support the defense and welfare of our nation."
