Hoyer Statement Following Briefing with MDOT Secretary Jim Smith

December 20, 2013

GREENBELT, MD –Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after meeting with Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Jim Smith:

"Today, I met with Secretary Smith for an update on major transportation projects in Prince George's County and Southern Maryland. Improving infrastructure for Fifth District residents, businesses, and commuters is a top priority, and I'm pleased we are making significant progress on many transportation projects in our community, such as relieving congestion on the Route 5 corridor, designing a new Thomas Johnson Bridge, and building the Purple Line. It is excellent news that the O'Malley-Brown administration is moving forward with these projects, which are important to our long-term competitiveness and economic growth, and I thank Secretary Smith for joining me today to provide an update."
