Hoyer Statement on Executive Orders Attacking the Federal Workforce

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after the Trump Administration issued three executive orders attacking federal employees:

"Once again, the Trump Administration is targeting the thousands of dedicated men and women that make up our federal civilian workforce. The executive orders issued today under the guise of reforming the federal workforce will significantly harm federal employees. These proposals would be devastating for thousands of families across the country by opening the door to firing individuals based on political motivations and severely undermining the right of federal employees to engage in union activities on official time.

"I'm proud to represent more than 62,000 dedicated federal employees. They work hard each and every day to defend our nation, keep our air and water clean, ensure our food is safe to consume, and care for our veterans. Already, federal employees have contributed $182 million toward deficit reduction – the only working Americans who have been forced to do so. They deserve better than constant attacks by President Trump and Republicans in Congress."
