Hoyer Statement on Congressional Signing Ceremony for Clay Hunt SAV ACT

February 10, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after attending the Congressional signing ceremony for the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans Act (Clay Hunt SAV Act):

“I was honored to join my colleagues today from both sides of the aisle to mark the passage of this bipartisan bill, which I supported, that will help reduce suicides of our military and veteran heroes. Our veterans put their lives on the line for all of us, and together we have a responsibility to make sure they have the care and resources they need once they’ve returned home to civilian life. This bill will strengthen mental health care at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and is an important step in the right direction to help stop the epidemic of veteran suicides. I am proud that both parties were able to come together to pass this legislation and send it to the President’s desk for his signature, and I look forward to continuing to work with them in a bipartisan way to improve care for our veterans.”
