Hoyer Statement on the Certification of the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement after the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced that it has certified the State Safety Oversight (SSO) Program of the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission. The certification of the SSO program was required in order to receive grant funding from the FTA. In 2017, Congressman Hoyer introduced legislation to establish the Safety Commission:

"I'm pleased that the FTA has certified the State Safety Oversight (SSO) Program of the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission. With today's certification, the FTA will release grant funding that had been withheld until the implementation of the SSO program. Ensuring Metro is safe and reliable must remain a top priority. I look forward to the continued work of the Safety Commission to improve Metro so that it is accessible and safe for all riders."
