Hoyer Statement on Being Sworn into the 118th Congress
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement tonight after being sworn into the 118th Congress as Representative for Maryland's Fifth Congressional District:
"Tonight, I was proud to be sworn in once again as Congressman for Maryland's Fifth District. Serving as the Congressman for my district is an honor, and I am excited to continue my work advocating for projects and policies that allow our district, state, and country to thrive in the months and years ahead. There is more work to be done on behalf of the Fifth District, and I will work alongside my Maryland colleagues to fight for the resources that meet our needs, including strengthening our national security at our military installations, championing the health of our Chesapeake Bay, expanding Judy Centers and supporting early childhood development, ensuring our federal employees have the benefits they deserve, and so much more.
"As a senior Member of the House Appropriations Committee, I will work tirelessly with House Democrats and, whenever possible, our colleagues across the aisle to build stronger, safer, and more prosperous communities throughout America. From lowering costs and combating inflation to protecting affordable health care access and generating millions of jobs by making key investments in infrastructure and manufacturing, we made important progress in pursuit of that mission last Congress and delivered strong results that helped ensure that more workers and families could make it in Maryland. I will do everything in my power to build on that momentum and to keep putting our people over politics.
"I was happy to join my colleagues in being sworn in today to reaffirm our commitment to our constituents, our Constitution, and our country. May that shared responsibility allow us to foster consensus in this Congress."
