Hoyer Statement on Amtrak Train Derailment

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement on last night's fatal Amtrak train derailment:

"I was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic derailment last night in Philadelphia. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the seven passengers who lost their lives, those still unaccounted for, and the survivors being treated for their injuries. Amtrak's Northeast Corridor is one of the busiest rail routes in the world, carrying more than 11 million passengers a year, and many from my district in Maryland and across the Greater Washington area travel it every day. This is a disaster that hits close to home, and I will continue to monitor developments closely in the coming hours and days."
