Hoyer Statement on Administration Comprehensive Strategy for Chesapeake Bay Restoration
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md) released the following statement on the "Strategy for Protecting and Restoring the Chesapeake Bay Watershed" issued by President Obama today laying out a plan for shared federal leadership, action and accountability in restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay:
"The Obama Administration has once again demonstrated its strong commitment to the Chesapeake Bay Watershed in announcing a comprehensive federal strategy to restore and protect this precious resource and the economic and cultural value it provides to our region. This strategy will complement efforts underway to accelerate progress toward restoration goals and target resources where they will have the most impact. I am hopeful that with this new approach we can build on the recent success restoring the Bay's blue crab population to preserve and protect this national treasure for generations to come. I remain absolutely committed to working with our regional congressional delegation to do our part in working to best implement this important plan."
The "Strategy for Protecting and Restoring the Chesapeake Bay Watershed" was developed under the executive order issued by President Obama in May 2009, which declared the Chesapeake Bay a national treasure and ushered in a new era of shared federal leadership, action and accountability.
