Hoyer Speaks at Charles County Unity in the Community Diversity Forum
LA PLATA, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5)delivered remarks today at the 2015 Unity in Our Community Diversity Forum which is designed to help community members create strategies and a community action plan to help build a stronger Charles County. The forum was hosted by the Diversity Institute at the College of Southern Maryland and took place at the college's La Plata Campus.
"I was glad to see so many people in La Plata today for this important dialogue about community diversity," said Congressman Hoyer. "Southern Maryland is experiencing a lot of exciting growth that brings with it new opportunities for Charles County. More and more families are looking to Charles County as the place to pursue their American dreams. This forum is a collaborative endeavor, requiring input from stakeholders across the county who may be coming from very different perspectives but share a common desire to build community through respect and trust. I thank all the community members for choosing to play a role in constructing the tolerant, diverse, and positive future that Charles County residents deserve and that will help make the county stand out even further as a great place to live and work."
The forum to address racial issues in Charles County was first held in 2007. Following a panel discussion today, attendees participated in small breakout sessions to begin crafting a community action plan that will be coordinated by the Diversity Institute at CSM.
