"Hello, I'm Congressman Steny Hoyer. I'm proud that Maryland is leading the country when it comes to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and that Marylanders are already benefiting from more affordable, quality health care.

"Beginning October 1, Marylanders looking for health coverage can shop for insurance through an online marketplace called the Maryland Health Connection. If you live in Maryland and don't have access to health insurance through your employer, you can visit www.marylandhealthconnection.com to shop, compare, and enroll in a plan that best meets your needs.

"While visiting this online marketplace, you can check your eligibility for tax credits to help reduce the cost of insurance. Approximately 75% of Marylanders will be eligible for these tax credits.

"You can also check to see if you or a family member are eligible for public health programs, such as Medicaid and the Maryland Children's Health Program.

"Open enrollment will continue through the end of March.

"If you need assistance, please call the toll-free hotline, 1-855-642-8572, and customer support will be able to talk you through the process.

"There is also in-person assistance available in Prince George's County and Southern Maryland. You can find in-person help locations on the Maryland Health Connection website or by calling the toll-free number I just gave.

"If you or your family members are without insurance, or if your current plan's premiums are too high, I encourage you not to wait but to visit the Maryland Health Connection and learn more about the affordable, quality health coverage available to you as a result of health care reform. Thank you."
