Hoyer Presents Flags to Veterans and Service Members at Hospice of Charles County
WALDORF, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5)today presented flags that were flown over the United States Capitol by his Congressional office to veterans and service members at Hospice of Charles County. Hospice of Charles County partners with the National Hospice Association and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide services to veterans who need end of life care.
"I was honored to make a presentation of the flag under which so many have served to those who have done so with distinction and with honor," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "As we begin to mark the Memorial Day weekend, we recall the sacrifice of our service members who gave their lives for our country on the field of battle. But we also pay tribute to those who returned home, both those who bore the scars of war and those who put their lives on the line to keep the peace."
"I want to thank the extraordinary staff at the Charles County Hospice House for the work they perform every day to provide comfort and care to patients and their families at an incredibly difficult moment in life's journey," continued Congressman Hoyer. "It is critical that we do more as a nation to ensure that quality health care and hospice care are available and accessible to every veteran who needs it. For the past 14 years, the VA's Hospice and Palliative Care Initiative has been focusing on how best to do that, and I am glad that the VA has covered the cost of hospice care for several veterans at the Charles County Hospice House. Those who serve our nation in uniform ought to have no doubt that they are an extended part of each and every American family and every community in our land."
To date, the VA has covered expenditures for five veterans at the Charles County Hospice House.
