Hoyer Praises Maryland for Leading the Nation in State of Women Report by the Center for American Progress
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) issued the following statement today after the Center for American Progress released their 2013 "State of Women in America" Report, which ranked Maryland as the best state for women:
"Here in Maryland, we are committed to equality for women in our communities and I'm pleased today's report, which analyzed 36 different health, economic, and leadership factors, reflects our dedication to their success. I applaud Governor O'Malley and Lt. Governor Brown on their leadership, which has helped open doors of opportunity to women in our state and ensure they have a fair shot.
"I'm proud that Maryland is a place where all women have the chance to succeed; however, inequality still exists. While the pay gap between men and women in Maryland is much lower than the rest of our country, any disparity is unacceptable. That's why I've co-sponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act in Congress to provide better legal remedies for people who have experienced pay discrimination. I'm hopeful that Congress will take additional action, including passing the Paycheck Fairness Act, to support progress for women in Maryland and throughout our nation."
