Hoyer Meets with Innovative Companies Supported by Maryland Technology Development Corporation

October 2, 2013

BOWIE, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) visited SemaConnect, Inc. today and received a briefing from the company and other innovative Maryland companies that are supported through the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO), including TRX Systems, Inc., Smart Imaging Systems, Genesis Engineering Solutions, Hollywood Oysters, and Pothole Pros. TEDCO is an independent organization that was created by the Maryland State Legislature in 1998 to support companies as they launch and expand.  During his visit with these companies, Congressman Hoyer also discussed the Make It In America plan he is leading in Congress.

"I'm proud that Maryland's Fifth District is home to so many innovative high-tech companies and I was pleased to meet with several of them today and hear how the Maryland Technology Development Corporation has assisted them in establishing and expanding their businesses," stated Congressman Hoyer. "Our state is leading the way when it comes to attracting businesses and supporting job creation, but there is much more Congress can do to help build on this progress. That's why I created the Make It In America plan in Congress to expand manufacturing and create jobs that pay well here in Maryland and across the country. Many of the bills included in this agenda already have bipartisan support, and I'm hopeful that Congress will take action on Make It In America legislation so that businesses like those I met with today can continue to expand and create jobs."

The Make It In America plan aims to expand domestic manufacturing and create well-paying jobs by focusing on four key priorities: adopting and pursuing a national manufacturing strategy; promoting the export of U.S. goods; encouraging businesses to bring jobs and innovation back to the U.S.; and training and securing a 21st century workforce.
