Hoyer Meets with the Human Services Coalition of Prince George's County
BOWIE, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) met with the Human Services Coalition of Prince George's County to discuss the impact of the automatic, across-the-board spending cuts known as sequestration on low and middle-income families in Maryland and the need to replace the sequester with a balanced alternative that includes both targeted spending cuts and additional revenues.
"From working with at-risk youth to assisting people with disabilities, the organizations supported by the Human Services Coalition are performing critical services throughout our community," stated Congressman Hoyer. "I'm pleased I could join the Coalition today to learn more about how these organizations are serving Fifth District families and individuals, and I'm committed to ensuring they can continue providing these services. That's why I continue to urge my colleagues in Congress to replace the sequester with a balanced alternative that will help put our nation back on a fiscally sustainable path while protecting investments that support middle-class families, seniors, and the most vulnerable among us."

The Human Services Coalition of Prince George's County supports 100 organizations that provide a range of services to disadvantaged and underserved populations in Prince George's County. Several of these organizations were represented at today's meeting, including the Prince George's County Department of Social Services, the Prince George's County Department of Family Services, the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Prince George's County, FAME, Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, the House Initiative Partnership, United Communities Against Poverty, Ivy Community Charities of Prince George's County, Community Foundation National Capital Region, Community Crisis Services, Inc., Community Advocates for Families and Youth, The Arc, Prince George's Child Resource Center, Family Matters Empowerment Center, Ardmore Enterprises, The Empowerment Institute, Inc., Community Support Systems, and Greater Baden Medical Services.
