Hoyer Lauds Opening of New Women's Resource Center in Prince George's County
CAMP SPRINGS, MD -Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) gathered today with government officials and leaders in Prince George's County to celebrate the opening of the new Women's Resource Center. The new center will provide a multitude of resources and services to empower more women in the County to reach higher levels of personal and professional achievement.
"The women of Prince George's County play a remarkable and valuable role within our community and contribute greatly to the overall vitality and health of our region," stated Hoyer. "In business, in education, in services and in leadership, women are at the forefront of making our county work. Unfortunately, women are still not enjoying the level of opportunity they should be entitled to in the workplace, nor the level of recognition they deserve."
Hoyer continued, "This center we are rededicating today will help women to collaborate with one another as they access government and community programs available to promote their goals for achievement."
The Women's Resource Center is a partnered operation between the Prince George's County Department of Family Services and the Commission for Children, Youth and Families. The purpose of the center is to empower women by providing assistance, education and community services, as well as a place where women can learn from and teach one another in an atmosphere of mutual respect. Participants will work to cultivate partnerships with existing public institutions, community-based organizations and individuals focused on enhancing the overall personal, social, economic and educational lives of women.
"It is important that we continue working to open more doors of opportunity for women in our society," said Hoyer. "I am proud of Prince George's County for offering this resource center and am pleased to be here to celebrate this truly grand opening."
The Women's Resource Center is located at 6420 Allentown Road in Camp Springs, Maryland 20748. The Program Coordinator is Faith C. Anderson-Leak.
