Hoyer Joins Accokeek Foundation to Celebrate the Potomac at Piscataway Park

June 15, 2015

ACCOKEEK, MD Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) attended and delivered brief remarks today at the Accokeek Foundation's "Celebrating the Potomac" event, which featured live music, children's activities, and watershed stewardship education. Accokeek Foundation is an educational nonprofit that stewards Piscataway Park in Southern Prince George's County.

"I can't think of a better place to celebrate the outdoors and celebrate the Potomac than at Piscataway Park," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "We are so fortunate that the Accokeek Foundation is working to preserve and protect this land and its viewshed, which contain so much Maryland history and heritage. For more than half a century, the foundation has been fostering a deep connection between Marylanders and our unique and fascinating history of living and working off this land."

"Developing an appreciation for environmental and historic conservation ought to begin at an early age, and I can think of no better place for that to happen than right here along the banks of the Potomac at Piscataway Park," continued Congressman Hoyer. "I look forward to continuing to promote a cleaner environment and the preservation of Maryland's natural heritage in Congress."

Rep. Hoyer continues to work to ensure that the federal government is a partner in environmental and historic conservation. On May 22, 2015, he joined Department of the Interior Secretary Sally Jewell for a hike to Douglas Point in Charles County to draw attention to the effort to have Congress reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
