Hoyer Hosts Grants Workshop on Funding Opportunities for Minority Health Issues at Bowie State University
BOWIE, MD –Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) today hosted a grants workshop at Bowie State University with representatives from non-profit organizations and local health departments on funding opportunities for minority health issues. The workshop offered attendees an opportunity to share best practices on how to apply for grants and learn about funding and effective grant-writing techniques.
"I was pleased to host today's grants workshop which gave local organizations, state and county health offices, and health professionals the opportunity to learn about new funding opportunities focused on closing the minority health disparities gap," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "I've been proud to support robust investment in minority health programs that provide grant funding to organizations working in Prince George's County and throughout our area."
"We share a responsibility to one another as Americans to work toward a healthier society, where everyone can get the care he or she requires to reach for the opportunities inherent in the American Dream," continued Congressman Hoyer. "When Congress passed the Affordable Care Act in 2010, we required six agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services to establish Offices of Minority Health in order to make sure that remaining gaps are being addressed across the health care spectrum. Together with the Department's Office of Minority Health and the NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, these offices battle on the front lines to close these gaps. I hope that today's attendees who apply from the Fifth District will be accepted, and that funding can go to support helpful initiatives in our communities."
LaJoy Mosby, deputy project director for the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health Resource Center served as the special guest for the workshop.
