Hoyer Hosts Grant Writing Workshop
ST. LEONARD, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) hosted a grant writing workshop for Fifth District non-profits, libraries, educational institutions, and local governments with representatives from the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
"I'm proud of the important work that is done all over Maryland by librarians, artists, educators, musicians, and our numerous museums and cultural
organizations, and I'm committed to ensuring these groups have the resources needed to support the great work they do," stated Congressman Hoyer. "I want to thank the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services for joining us here today to help our community attain the available funds to support the arts and humanities, especially during tough economic times. Ensuring these programs have the necessary resources enriches our community, supports tens of millions of jobs, and boosts economic growth."
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) were established by Congress in 1965 as independent agencies of the federal government. To date, the NEA has awarded more than $4 billion to support artistic excellence, creativity, and innovation. The NEH is one of the largest funders of humanities programs, and supports research and learning in history, literature, philosophy, and other areas by funding selected, peer-reviewed proposals. The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums.
