Hoyer Hosts First Meeting of the Fifth District Make It In America Advisory Committee

February 21, 2012

WALDORF, MD – This afternoon, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) hosted the first meeting of the Fifth District Make It In America Advisory Committee, which brought together local manufacturers, business leaders, labor organizations, education officials, economic development agencies and others to discuss House Democrats' Make It In America plan.

"Today, I hosted a very productive meeting with the Fifth District Make It In America Advisory Committee to discuss how we can work together to promote job creation, grow the economy, and strengthen the manufacturing sector," stated Congressman Hoyer. "Manufacturing continues to be a bright spot in our economic recovery and the Make It In America plan aims to build on that momentum by providing an encouraging environment for manufacturers to innovate, grow, keep and create good jobs here in Maryland and throughout the nation. I thank the Advisory Committee for joining me today, and look forward to their continued guidance as we move forward with this plan to help put more Americans back to work and ensure more Maryland families and businesses can make it in America."

The Make It In America plan aims to support job creation and economic growth by cultivating an encouraging environment for businesses to innovate and make products here in the U.S. Since launching the initiative in the 111th Congress, seven Make It In America bills have been signed into law, and many of the President's proposals in his budget for next year overlap with the Make It In America plan. Over the coming year, Congressman Hoyer will be focused on several of these proposals, including tax policy to encourage businesses to bring jobs back to the U.S., making investments in education, innovation and infrastructure, and creating a level playing field for U.S. workers and businesses.

Congressman Hoyer will continue meeting with the Fifth District Advisory Committee throughout the year to keep these community leaders informed and receive feedback and guidance on moving the Make It In America plan forward, creating jobs, and ensuring the middle class can succeed.
