Hoyer Hosts 33rd Annual Military Education and Career Showcase

April 11, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC –Last night, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) hosted the 33rd Annual Military Education and Career Showcase to provide Fifth District students interested in pursuing a nomination to one of the four service academies with information and guidance necessary to begin the nomination process with Congressman Hoyer's office.

Members of Congressman Hoyer's Fifth District Service Academy Selection Board and representatives from each service academy were in attendance to discuss the application process and answer questions. CAPT Ann Kubera, Director of Admissions for the Naval Academy, served as a guest speaker.

"From combating terrorism to keeping the peace in troubled regions, our military has an important role to play in the twenty-first century," stated Congressman Hoyer. "That's why we must continue to produce strong and dedicated military officers. Throughout my years in Congress, I have been honored to nominate the Fifth District's best and brightest to our service academies. I'm pleased so many exceptional students joined me last night for the showcase, and I thank CAPT Kubera, the Fifth District Service Academy Selection Board, and other representatives from service academies for taking the time to meet with potential applicants. I urge all students interested in attending one of our nation's prestigious service academies to contact my office for assistance with applying for a service academy nomination."

Four service academies in the United States – the Air Force Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, the Military Academy at West Point, and the Naval Academy – require a nomination from an authorized nominating source, which includes Congressman Hoyer.  Students interested in applying are encouraged to start the application process during the late spring of their junior year by contacting Congressman Hoyer's Office.
