Hoyer Honored at Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO's 32nd Annual COPE Dinner
WASHINGTON, DC – Last night, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) was honored at the Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO's 32nd Annual Committee for Political Education (COPE) Dinner. At the dinner, labor, business, and elected officials recognized Congressman Hoyer's work to strengthen the middle class and our economy.
"I was honored to join the Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO at their Annual COPE Dinner, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help lead the fight in Congress for jobs that pay well and create opportunities for America's middle class," stated Congressman Hoyer. "Together, we are working to ensure that hardworking individuals in Maryland and throughout the country have every chance to Make It In America."
"As we continue to focus on strengthening our economy and building a lasting recovery that will fuel growth for the 21st century, we must make sure it is done in a way that protects and expands opportunities for the middle class," continued Congressman Hoyer. "That's why I'm leading a jobs plan in Congress called ‘Make It In America' – based on policies that will have the greatest impact on job creation and manufacturing growth and which also
stand the best chance of achieving bipartisan support to become law. I thank the Council and their affiliates for all that they do, and look forward to
continuing to work together to help middle-class families make it in America and right here in Maryland."
"The Baltimore Council is very proud of Congressman Hoyer," said Ernie Grecco, President of the Metropolitan Baltimore Council, AFL-CIO. "Manufacturing is important to Baltimore and our state, and we are grateful he is leading the Make It In America plan to help strengthen this sector and create jobs."
"Congressman Hoyer helps our membership here in Maryland, and we will always be at his side and have his back because he is a man of principle," said R. Thomas Buffenbarger, International President of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, who introduced Congressman Hoyer at tonight's dinner. "It was with a great sense of pride that I introduced a great Congressman, a caring person, a friend to all working people, and I congratulate him on this honor."
The theme of the COPE Dinner this year was "Make It In America." Congressman Hoyer is spearheading House Democrats' Make It In America plan to create jobs and opportunities for middle class families by strengthening American manufacturing. In the 113th Congress, the Make It In America plan is focused on four key priorities: adopting and pursuing a national manufacturing strategy; promoting the export of U.S. goods; encouraging businesses to bring jobs and innovation back to the U.S.; and training and securing a twenty-first century workforce.
