"For our region, Bruce, I think his focus at the beginning that we need to avoid the sequester is absolutely correct. I would hope that our Republican colleagues will work with us to come up with an alternative in the next two weeks to sequester."
"The President set forth an agenda that I think is a good one if we want to make America stronger, better now and in the future. Job creation is a major, major objective. As you know, I'm the sponsor of what we call a Make It In America agenda, which is all about bringing manufacturing home, creating an environment to expand manufacturing and jobs… I think the President put forth an agenda, much of which we can accomplish if we work together. That's the trick. I think there's much in there that Republicans can support and Democrats can support."
"…I'm not heartened by the fact that we've been here for six weeks and Republicans in the House of Representatives, who control the agenda, have not put a bill on the Floor to [prevent the sequester]. But it is a critical, critical objective, we ought to do it. And not only do we have the sequester, but we have the Continuing Resolution ending in March and then we have the debt limit in May. We continue to roil the economy. That's what the President talked about. We need some stability, we need some confidence."

"I think the President has been prepared, has offered a balanced solution to meet the sequester. I think he reiterated that today. He reiterated the sequester should not go into effect. And very frankly you have an awful lot of Republicans... who say the sequester is an alternative we're prepared to take. It's a bad alternative, it will hurt the country, it will hurt the economy, and we shouldn't go there. And very frankly, we've been in session now some six weeks - not one bill have the Republicans put on the Floor of the House to avoid sequestration."

"I'm hopeful we can work together with our Republican colleagues to avoid the sequester. It's not going to be hard to do. It just requires the will."
