February 10, 2015

BALTIMORE, MD –Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5), joined by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, visited Marlin Steel, a steel wire and sheet manufacturer in Baltimore. Rep. Hoyer discussed his Make It In America plan, an effort he’s leading in Congress that focuses on creating an environment where businesses like Marlin Steel can expand their ability to create jobs and innovative productsin the U.S. and sell those products here and around the world.

“It was great to be at Marlin Steel today to see the work this company is doing, from making custom wire baskets to sheet metal fabrications, and to celebrate their expansion of their factory floor,” said Congressman Steny Hoyer. “Martin Steel is a good example of why Congress needs to do more to invest in supporting manufacturing growth. Entrepreneurs like Marlin’s President Drew Greenblatt want to expand their operations and hire more workers for jobs that pay well and open doors of opportunity. In addition, Marlin Steel is a leading example of a business that recognizes the value of hiring our nation's veterans, who bring important skills to the workplace."

“Baltimore's economy is continuing to grow stronger thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit of companies like Marlin Steel and smart investments from federal, state and local government,” said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. “Today's expansion is yet another sign that good paying middle class jobs are what will continue to lead the United States back to prosperity.”

“Congressman Hoyer is committed to USA Manufacturing,” said Drew Greenblatt, President of Marlin Steel. “His focus and initiatives will strengthen the middle class because his ideas will grow factory jobs in Maryland. Marlin Steel is the kind of All-American factory that will be helped by his growth plan.”

During Rep. Hoyer’s visit, Marlin Steel announced that it is expanding its manufacturing floor by more than 50 percent. He participated in a ceremonial wall breaking for the expansion. The company currently exports to 37 countries and 10 percent of its employees are veterans.
