Hoyer Attends Southern Christian Leadership Conference Banquet In Commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) delivered remarks at an afternoon banquet hosted by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in commemoration of the 84th birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and as part of the National Service Day.

"It was an honor to mark Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and our National Day of Service with members of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Rep. Elijah Cummings, and others who joined the banquet," stated Congressman Hoyer. "I think Dr. King would have been proud of the work we are doing in our time and under President Obama's leadership. As President Obama begins his second term in just a few days and as a new Congress gets underway, I urge both parties to work together to create new opportunities and break down barriers to equality."

Congressman Elijah Cummings served as the keynote speaker at the event.
