Hoyer Attends Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Charles County Children's Aid Society
WALDORF, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) delivered remarks at the ribbon cutting ceremony for Charles County Children's Aid Society, a non-profit agency which aims to improve the quality of life for struggling Charles County families with children under the age of 18. At the event, Congressman Hoyer presented Children's Aid with a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol.
"I thank Charles County Children's Aid Society for the opportunity to join them today to celebrate this new beginning," stated Congressman Hoyer. "Begun in the midst of the Great Depression, and helping families today in the aftermath of the great recession, their work has been aided by people from across the county who have donated their time, energy, and resources. By inaugurating this new office, we recommit ourselves to the noble cause to ensure that no child in the county goes hungry, that no child wants for shelter or the basic comforts of life, and that no child is forced to live in despair of a bleak future."
"I continue to believe in an America where everybody has an equal shot at achieving the American dream," continued Congressman Hoyer. "Without community organizations like Children's Aid, that dream would become ever more distant. I will continue to stand up for the anti-poverty programs Congress has created, which in our recovering economy we need now more than ever. I thank Children's Aid for all the work they do, and I look forward to continuing to work together in the years ahead."
In 2012, Children's Aid assisted over 20,000 children and families by providing clothing; food; rent, mortgage, and utility assistance; educational classes; recreational activities; and holiday assistance.
