Hoyer Attends Opening Day of the 433rd Session of the Maryland General Assembly
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) attended opening day of the 433rd Session of the Maryland General Assembly and delivered remarks in both the Senate and House of Delegates chambers.
"It was an honor to join the Maryland Senate and the House of Delegates today for the opening of the 433rd Session of the General Assembly," stated Congressman Hoyer. "I'm proud that state lawmakers passed landmark legislation last session, including the DREAM Act and marriage equality, and worked with Governor O'Malley's administration to support job creation, encourage greater economic development, and to strengthen education in our state."
"Now, in the opening of this new session, the General Assembly has the opportunity to build on the work they performed in 2012," continued Congressman Hoyer. "While significant progress was made last year, Marylanders are still facing tough times economically, and we must work together to ensure they can access opportunity. I thank Senate President Mike Miller, Speaker Michael Busch, and each member of the General Assembly for their efforts, and will continue
working with them to make Maryland the best place to start a business, raise a family, and pursue the American dream."
Following his remarks, Congressman Hoyer visited the office of Delegate Jolene Ivey, Prince George's County Delegation Chair, and the office of Sally Jameson, the Southern Maryland Delegation Chair.
Congressman Hoyer was elected to the Maryland Senate in 1966. In 1975, he was elected President of the Senate, the youngest ever in state history, and he served in that body until 1978.
